Floortje & Rannie

How's everyone doing?

Exams should be done by now for the most of us :) Our beloved intern-- Floortje (from The Netherlands) will be having her farewell party tomorrow, while Rannie (Hong Kong), Nora (Denmark), and Ottelian (The Netherlands) have arrived in Malaysia not too long ago. We'll be having a dinner with some of them (maybe all) tomorrow too.

Dinner
5.30pm, Mid Valley

Farewell Party
8.00pm onwards, Waikiki (near A&W/ Amcorp Mall/ Taman Jaya station/ PJ Hilton, PJ)

Feel free to join us :) Should you need more details of the events, drop me a call at 016-6783430.

P/s: Just got back from AIESEC Malaysia National Convention at USM, Penang last night. It was so hard saying goodbye to the delegates there.. Undoubtedly one of the best (and 'high-tech') conferences I've ever attended! Talk to me, I'll share more with you ;)

The LLDS that was

Forgive the lateness. I know this is way overdue--I've been caught up in so many things I haven't really had the time to sit down properly and write about it, plus I'm the kind of person who needs to find the right feel to pen down something remotely interesting--but I still feeling like sharing :)

Okay. Local Leadership Development Seminar, or LLDS for short. 25th - 27th April. Malacca. Approximately 30 delegates. 7 facis. 1 chair. And I'm proud to have been there.

I had the privilege of attending LLDS 07 in Ipoh as an EB member. This time around, I had the honour to facilitate. The difference may seem trivial to you--hey, I'm still attending the conference, right--, but it does make a difference to me.

Being a first-time facilitator has been a learning experience for me. The faci team, my team, consists of AIESECers from very diverse backgrounds and a multitude of experiences. We have people who have been on national and international levels, who have gone on exchange, who have facilitated various conferences, and out of all those people, I am the youngest, both in age and my position in the AIESEC journey.

First things first: why did I apply? It actually stemmed from my intention last LLDS. I almost applied to be a facilitator last year, but after doing some reflecting, I decided to go for it this year, when I would be more prepared both in terms of knowledge, and mentally, and I’m glad to say, I made it happen.

To be honest, working with all those people who, in my eyes, were so much better than me, was pretty intimidating. I suppose this is what it'll probably feel like, like having to group up with a bunch of geniuses to work on a college assignment, wanting to contribute as much but at the same time, afraid that you have insufficient knowledge to help them out. I may not have been the person coming up with all the things all the time, but I can't deny that I've picked up a thing or two in the whole process.

I learned most in the planning stages of the conference. It was more personal learning than anything else. You don't have necessarily have to follow what others say though they may be the 'heads'. Have your own stand. Back it up. Do what you think you should, not what others insist you must. If you feel you know best, go ahead with it. Ahh, the things you learn only if you think deeper.

As for the conference itself, I got to see things from a faci's POV, and not so much as an EB. Funny, though. You'd think it's no big deal since you're dealing with the same people whether you come in as a delegate or faci, but that's not true. You kind of step out of the shoes of a member, at least for a little while, and look at things from an outside perspective. What is right, what is wrong, how someone should have handled the situation, and the reaction to the way people acted. The sad part is that I couldn't see my performance as a faci from the viewpoint of a member. I hope I did not fare too badly.

I'm not going to gush or go on and on about how being a faci has totally changed my life, because that's too cliche and not a hundred percent accurate anyway. But one thing that definitely holds true: it's something I did not regret ever going for.

3 in 1 party!

(Please click on the image for a larger view)

As promised in the previous mail, this Saturday we offer you 3 for the "price" of 1.

Me (Hugo), Aman, and Anand are more than delighted to invite all of you for a TRIPLE birthday celebration!

The Event will take place at Scott Sentral Building Unit 22-3A, for those who were not at the PORTUGUESE INDIAN PARTY (or were too drunk to remember), it is located in Brickfields, behind Villa Scott, and near the Indian Temple. Any other doubt, feel free to call or e-mail me (012-9261 697).

AS ALWAYS WE ARE PROVIDING DRINKS TO ALL OUR ESTEEMED GUESTS, NEVERTHELESS WE ASK THAT YOU BRING A BOTTLE, OR SOME CANS OF BEER, OR ICE, OR ANYTHING THAT YOU FEEL THAT WILL ADD VALUE TO THE PARTY!! BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT YOU SHOW UP IN A GREAT MOOD AND READY TO PARTY REALLY HARD!!

I know that Csilli is also having her Farwell Party on the same day, we tried to coordinate but it was impossible to alter the dates, anyway her party is starting early, and ours it's ending late!! I think that two parties are better than one so just show us what you got and come to both of the parties!!

That's it my dears! Have a great week and hope to see you all on Saturday!!

Regards,
Hugo Pacheco

Cultural Day

Hello AIESEC TUC,

We are proud to announce that we will be having another upcoming event—Cultural DAY. This event allows you the opportunity to work with people from different countries, experience different feelings of working with other cultures. Not forgetting event management skills. We reckon the event would be held on the 1st week of August 2008. For the first time, AIESEC will be organizing an OPEN EVENT on campus. So what are you waiting for?

If you are an events lover and are keen to organize an event where it includes working together with our interns from Poland, Lithuania, The Netherlands, China, and so forth, it’s time to grab the opportunity!! I assure you that this is a good experience! The uniqueness of this event is where you get to engage yourself with different people and be exposed to countries that you might or might not have heard about before, getting first hand views of the culture from people of that country itself.

What do we want?

We need a group of 5 dedicated, responsible and dynamic individuals to organize this unique event!

How?

All you need to do is to submit your name to me by this weekend, Sunday 8th June 2008 at 11.59p.m

I can be contacted as below:
